The first time going to KW was in 2002. I played as "Loose Women". Loose Women are women who aren't involved with a team who still want to play, they form their own team. I had a blast and went back after forming my own team "RumRunners" (from Flagler College) in 2006. There I met Blue Wave team (from Florida Institute of Tecnology, Melbourne), coinsidencely I was plaing on moving to Melbourne after I graduated in Dec 2006. Last year I played with Blue Wave and again had a blast. This year Blue Wave plans to have 2 teams, one competitive and one low level team. What to expect: Dates: Febuary 3-11, your required to arrive by the 6th for registration. This is an all women's tourniment (hence the "W" in IWFFA) and 4 levels of play. There is contact, with flags. No tackling. Your going to be playing agaist teams from all over the country and the World~ They provide referees, also international, who I found to be kind and as fair as any ref could possibly be. Most teams are competitive, even in the bottom division. But still there to have fun. There is a respect and comradery feeling anywhere you go in KW when you run into another team. Each night there is a social event at a diffrent bar or club. This is a great time to let loose with your team and other teams. The most memorable event is the Fat Tuesday's Bar Olympics, where your team compeats with other teams in "spring break" like competitions. Its crazy! There are special half-time games and prizes for spectatiors. We normally find another team in a diffrent division to cheer for. You'll find your favorites too. Web: <http://www.iwffa.com>www.iwffa.com Keep in mind Deadline is DECEMBER 14th!!!! I don't work for IWFFA or profit from your team playing at KW, but I love going to the Kelly McGilis classic and I think your team will too. - Mary Angelini |
